Week 5

Updates from the week of April 27th

Objective for Week 5

  • Android App
  • Communication via bluetooth

  • Summary of what we did this week

This week we focused on the Android app. This includes the bluetooth connection from RFduino to Android phone. The data that is sent from the RFduino to the bluetooth is encoded from 12 bytes of information into 24 hexadecimal characters. We also encoded every button from the RFduino to sequence of byte characters. We were able to make three activities screens. The interface for the activities is at a beta level and just supports the necessary input controls to make the backend stuff work. Our first screen is able to send the input data that is used for setup to the next activity. The second activity does all the bluetooth connections and reads the data from the IMU/RFduino. The last activity we implemented gives the user the option to statistically measure and graph their stroke out on a 3d plane. Essentially we have complemented the functionality for the first two activities and the only thing we need to do is to finish the third activity. We need to implement a function that calculates a consistency score for the user's stroke and also redraw this stroke onto a 3d plane.

    How to use:

    1. 1. Pick sport and form to analyze. Android app screen 1
    2. 2. Pick sport and form to analyze. Android app screen 1
    3. 3. Turn on bluetooth. Android app screen 2
    4. 4. Scan bluetooth for RFduino. Android app screen 2
    5. 5. Connect to RFduino: This will wake the RFduino up. Android app screen 2
    6. 6. Press start button then stroke/shot/motion. RFduino
    7. 7. Press feedback button when done with motion, +/-. RFduino
    8. 8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 until done button (android app screen 2) is pressed
    9. 9. Summarize and analyze a form, draw 3d model of stroke, consistency score, save data or delete data. Android app screen 3

    Data file that is created

    Objectives for next week

Use the data file to produce results and output it to the Android screen
