So, why Sensei ?
Motivation
In games involving a stroke, having a good stroke is as important as posture and footwork. The motivation behind this product is to help the user perfect their swing.
Overview
Based on our initial identification of the problem at hand, we have narrowed the problem down to being able to analyze the speed and motion of user's swing, and what happens at the point of impact. Using a 3-axis gyroscope, we intend to be able to analyze the motion of the swing in the 2D or 3D plane. This, although a major portion of the assignment at hand, isn't the key factor. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
So, when someone strikes a ball either in tennis or golf, or whatever the sport may be, you feel a 'recoil' in your hands. We intend to quantify this recoil. For this, we intend to use either an accelerometer or a tilt-ball switch, based on the budget. The data collected will then be sent to a paired smartphone via a Bluetooth module.
Our first focus will be to make a consistency check of the swings. Many people struggle from having a consistent form for their swing. if we have their good form or sample the experts' form as the reference swing, then we can give the feedback about how much the swing is off from the reference form.
In addition to consistency check, we anticipate to implement a score keeper function on our device. The score keeper function will be used in wide range of applications such as basketball, badminton, tennis, and golf.
Basketball: The goal will be to monitor your form. It is to record your shooting form and redraw this in a 3d plane. Players should analyze and try out different forms to see which yeilds the highest basket percentage. They can view their arc and get statistical background about their form.
Tennis: Serving is one of the most important part of tennis. This product will help master your serve. It provides you statistical evidence on your current form and can guide you to perfect your shot.
Golf: Consistency is the key for every swing. This product will help you manage your swing and analyze each of your swing to give better understanding of your shots.
